Modesty Vs. Character Assassination: A Short Message

We have all had moments where we lower our self-image in order to seem modest instead of arrogant. No one wants to be labelled as arrogant, vain or prideful, and thus we put ourselves down before others have the chance. Due to this, we mistake character assassination for modesty. Even when we know deep down that we have some great qualities, we often downplay them to the point of extinction. For instance, one might say “I can’t sing. My voice is terrible,” in order to seem modest, when in reality they have a very nice voice. Despite these intentions, there comes a point where we start to truly believe our negative comments. This then leads us with a low self-esteem.

Modesty, my friends, is knowing our abilities as well as knowing the areas we need to improve on. A modest mindset says, “I’m a good singer and I have much to learn and improve upon.” It’s about being realistic in where we are, not downplaying our abilities nor having a boastful attitude. It allows us to achieve great personal growth all the while having confidence in who we are. If we can do this, it will change the way we see ourselves and our approach to learning. My friends, you are awesome! You have so many wonderful qualities that I and many others are inspired by. Don’t ever allow yourself to lower your self-image. Embrace all your wonderful qualities while improving upon them!
