We all have character traits that we want to improve on whether they be big or small. And we all want to become the best person we can be. However, there are some of us who mistake the toxic mindset of perfectionism with personal progress. A perfectionist mindset says that we can’t make mistakes and have personal growth. With this mindset we may think, “I need to have these character traits. If I don’t have them now, I won’t be good enough. I need to stop being the way I am right now.”

Let’s be real, we are human and are bound to make mistakes. What’s wonderful about personal progress is that it allows ourselves to grow little by little. There is no expectation of a tremendous transformation overnight. A transformation of this greatness would be vastly unrealistic. We can’t and shouldn’t expect this of ourselves. We need to approach self-improvement in a more realistic way. A personal progress mindset says “I have these things I want to improve on. What steps can I take to start improving?” Self-improvement is a constant journey, not an instant destination. My friends, do not strive for perfection because you will always feel discouraged about not being good enough. Instead, strive to improve yourself little by little, each and every day. This will allow you to become the person you want to be. Yes, it will take time, but you will be much happier as you meet your self-improvement goals.
