Do you ever dream of the person you want to be or the things you want to do? Well, today is the day to stop wishing and start taking action. There are many of us who think that our dreams will never become a reality because the path is too hard or it seems downright impossible. This way of thinking will keep us from making our dreams a reality. Instead of continuing this way of thinking, we need to be setting goals.
Setting goals can be as simple as wanting to get into better physical shape or something more complex such as becoming a rock star. Despite how big or small our dreams may be they require goal setting. As filmmaker and best selling author, Greg S. Reid has said, “A Dream written down with a date becomes a goal. A goal broken down into steps becomes a plan. A plan backed by action makes your dreams come true.” Taking Action keeps you Motivated. Each time you take steps toward your goal, it helps you to stay motivated. And when you continue to take these steps on a daily basis, your motivation will only grow even in times of trial.
When we focus on our goals and are motivated to complete them we will find success whether it is strictly personal or career oriented. The trick is to keep ourselves motivated even in the hardest of times. Motivation during these difficult times kills two birds with one stone. It will help us to stay away from negative feelings while progressing towards our achievements. And when adversity comes, we need to think about those who came before us. Personally, I like to think about Walt Disney. He was fired from a newspaper because “he lacked imagination.” He had several businesses that ended in failure and bankruptcy. He and his animator Ub Iwerks created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and lost the rights to the character. And despite this, he still worked towards his goals. Eventually, he created the Mickey Mouse cartoons which took the nation by storm. His animated films are now considered classics and the Disney company has become an empire. It is not only a successful filmmaking business but also a cultural influence. One of my favorite quotes by Walt Disney is, “If you can dream it, you can do it.” This is the attitude that will keep us pressing forward even in times of adversity. If we can only keep ourselves pressing forward, we will find success just like Mr. Walt Disney.
Dreams are wonderful! We should always keep dreaming but we should also set goals to make those dreams a reality. When we take steps towards our goals, we will find that we are greatly blessed in many ways. Even if our goals are accomplished in ways that we never thought it would be, we will know that it was meant to be that way. The biggest thing is believing in yourself. Believe that you can do all things. The path is not always impossible but rather has a different route than you had previously considered. You can do it!
