Growing up (at least for me), my parents would repeat affirmations to me. They would say that I was beautiful, smart, strong, kind, talented and worthy. They incorporated these affirmations into normal conversations and especially into more serious conversations pertaining to my worth as a person.
As I became a teenager and adult, I didn't do this for myself. In fact, I did the exact opposite. I criticized myself about everything. I think many of us do. And it's sad that we don't see our worth the way we used to as children. I thinks it's high time we change that!
My friends, I want you to repeat these affirmations to yourself every day. I want you to see yourself the way you really are. I want you to know your worth.
I am Beautiful

In our society, we are groomed to be unhappy with our looks. We feel like we have to look like those we see in the media with the "perfect," body, hair, tan and facial features. Even super model Cindy Crawford has said, "Even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford." Instead of looking at yourself in the mirror, and commenting on how you hate your body. Look at the features you really love. Do you like your hair? Your eyes? Your curves? Your skin-tone? Great! Tell yourself about it and remember that your beauty also comes within.
I have Potential

Believe it or not, you have loads of Potential! You have so much skill and talents that you have yet to tap into or use. The more we learn and grow ourselves through self-improvement, the more we use our untapped potential. Think about each little accomplishment you made and how it has helped you to become who you are now. Be proud of that!
I am Doing my Best

Your best is good enough! I think this can be a hard concept to grab for recent college graduates, newlyweds and mothers. We all want to get that perfect job, be that perfect spouse and the perfect parent. Don't trick yourself into believing that you need to be perfect. There is no such thing as perfection (except for Jesus Christ of course). And don‘t compare yourself to others! Not everything is what it seems. You try so hard everyday and that's all anyone can do. That‘s all anyone should do. Be proud of your best efforts!
I deserve to be Happy

You really do! Don't allow yourself to live a life you don't want because you feel expected to. Live the life you want. Live a life that is the healthiest for your mental health and we'll being. Start today! It's Saturday. Go out and do what you want to do. Go out for a picnic lunch, have movie night with the girls, go for a date night, have a spa day or some well-needed alone time. Do it for you! You deserve it!
I deserve to be Loved

Of course you do! Love is the most powerful thing in this world. Love can conquer all! The love we get from family, friends and significant others can bring us out from the dark and into the light. They (our loved ones) can help us to heal. They can teach us to love ourselves and as they have loved us. They allow us to be ourselves and to understand our worth as a human being. You deserve this! Don't settle for anything less.
I am Worthy

You are worthy! You are a good person, a kind person, a loving person , a self-less person and compassionate person. You are worthy of love. You are worthy of happiness. You are worthy of peace. You are worthy of your family, friends and significant other. You are worthy of feeling confident. You are worthy of feeling self-love. And for my believers, you are worthy of God's love no matter who you are.
I am Strong

Think about everything you have been through to get to this point today. Look at all the trials you went through and somehow you are still standing today. Be proud of that! Despite the awful, depressing and downright horrifying experience you have had, you walked through the fire and scoffed at it. You are standing here today as a strong and powerful person. Even if you don't feel like it. It is noticeable to others. This doesn't mean you don't get emotional. Being emotional is a part of your strength.
I am Brave

Honestly, it can be scary to be who you are and to live the way you choose. Sometimes, people don't understand and through their discontent, they can make you feel awful about who you are. I love the way Emma from Once Upon a Time phrased this, "People are gonna tell you who you are your whole life. You just gotta push back and say, 'No, this is who I am.'" It's true! Deep down, you know who you are. You know what your core beliefs are, your likes and dislikes, your ambitions, your dreams. And it's OK to be who you are. Love yourself because you are enough!
I am Enough

You are enough! You work hard every single day! You love others unconditionally. You have a unique and beautiful personality. You have a beautiful way of seeing the world. You try your best every day to be the best person you can be. You continually tap into your potential and use your talents the best you can. You may get down on yourself for not being perfect, but don't! You are enough as you are! Look at how you live your life and the good you do for others. Look at the lives you have changed just from being someone's friend. Look at who you are as a whole. Be proud of that! You are enough!
Today is My Day

Today is your day! It's your day to have fun, to love, to care, to relax, to be creative, to be spontaneous and to enjoy the many beautiful parts of life. This world is a beautiful place. Today is your day to enjoy it to the best way you know how. Go hiking, spend the day with your friends, take the kids out to the park, listen to music and enjoy the sun, etc. Today is a gift!
Conclusion
My friends you deserve to know your worth and to be proud of you who you are! It amazes me that we criticize ourselves so harshly when deep down we know we don't deserve it. Take a good look in the mirror; That is You! And it is beautiful! We deserve better. We deserve to love ourselves and be our own best friends.
