The Power of Mindfulness

Mindfulness has been something I've been practicing for about a year now. When I first heard about it, I thought I wouldn't ever do it myself. However, the topic of Mindfulness continued to come up. Often this would happen when I would research tips to improve my depression and anxiety.


When I was struggling to find a job and COVID-19 hit, I was very depressed. I felt ashamed, thinking I was a failure. It was also hard to be away from family during such a vulnerable time. I decided to take up yoga and meditation.


I practiced yoga with and was amazed at how in touch I became with myself and the world around me. When I took up guided meditation I felt incredibly relaxed and became increasingly optimistic about my circumstances. Mindfulness came into play with these two things.


I became more self aware of my thoughts, body and the world around me. It became easier to dismiss negative thoughts, my creative writing process flowed easier and I was generally happier.


Being in touch with the world around me in the present moment allowed me to enjoy each moment and to live more fully. It has changed my life and the way I see the world. I couldn't have gotten through the last year without the tools mindfulness provided.


Today, I use mindfulness daily. It has become a great part of my life that allows me to appreciate life with great magnitude. And now, I can't imagine living any other way.
